Improving nuclear safety

The PLAC II project provided assistance to the Serbian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency between May and September 2017.

Based on relevant EU directives, assistance was provided in drafting Guidelines for inspection of nuclear facilities other than Nuclear Power Plants (radioactive waste management facilities such as storages, treatment and conditioning facilities and research reactors).

In addition to this, draft Rulebook on the Security of Radioactive Sources was developed in July 2017, which will serve to create regulatory framework for impending adequate security measures for all radioactive sources on national territory.

Draft Rulebook was developed based on the requirements of Council Directive 2013/59/Euratom which sets general requirements for control of radioactive sources and in line with the recommendations for this specific area by International Atomic Energy Agency. By adopting the Rulebook, Serbia will further harmonise its national legislation with EU acquis in the area of nuclear safety, as well as with other relevant international agreements, which will improve Serbian national nuclear security framework.
