Safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships

In order to prevent and reduce harmful effects on human health and the environment, the Hong Kong Convention provides stricter measures related to safe and environmentally sound recycling of ships.

In the period from September to November 2017, support was provided to the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection in this important area.

PLAC II Project expert Pawel Banas performed legal analysis of the level of compliance of the existing Serbian legislation relevant for the Hong Kong Convention with the Regulation (EU) No 1257/2013. He developed recommendations for further upgrading of the institutional set-up for proper implementation and delivered training for relevant stakeholders on 22 November. In addition to this, he prepared drafts of the most relevant provisions of appropriate legislation for the alignment with the Regulation.
