Extensive works on reconstruction and construction of new facilities for accommodation of migrants financed with EU funds

In addition to accommodation, food provision, health care and education of migrant children, under the
EU Support to Migration Management in Serbia, substantial funds have been invested in improving
accommodation conditions, reconstruction of existing and construction of new accommodation
facilities.

In coordination with the institutions of the Republic of Serbia mandated with migration management,
funds were allocated for the ongoing maintenance of reception and asylum centers, minor repairs and
reconstructions, as well as for the purchase of furniture and improvement of WASH (water, sanitation,
hygiene) conditions.

For example, EUR 200,000 each were invested in several reception centers to put in place a wastewater
treatment system (reception centers in Kikinda and Pirot), as well as to provide migrants with access to
drinking water by connecting the centers to the water supply network (reception centers Principovac
and Pirot).

Substantial funds have been invested in the reconstruction of facilities to improve living conditions for
migrants accommodated in the Asylum Center in Sjenica and in the RC in Bosilegrad, whilst a new
Asylum Center facility was built in Tutin.

All these works were realized as of beginning of 2017 through May 2020.
