Improved conditions for accommodation of minor migrants

European Union funds have been used to improve the conditions of residence and the quality of services provided to unaccompanied children from the migrant and refugee population. They are accommodated in two institutions, in the Institute for the Education of Children and Youth in Belgrade in Vodovodska Street, and in the Institute for the Education of Youth in Nis.

In the Institution in Niš, among other things, new furniture was purchased, the heating system was modernized, and the accommodation capacity was expanded by 30 percent.

In the facility in Belgrade, the heating system was also improved, the roof was reconstructed, the carpentry was replaced, new furniture was purchased, and the accommodation capacity was increased by 50 percent.

The reconstruction in both facilities also included the improvement of space for meetings between children and guardians, i.e. legal advisors.

In these institutions, children are cared for daily by educators and other specialized workers who are trained to work with children from the migrant and refugee population. Educators are especially important, because they help each child upon arrival in the process of adaptation to the institution, as well as the preparation of the group for the reception of new members.
